Native American Cancer Research Corporation

About

The mission of this collaborative research team is to understand the impact of environmental contaminants, mitigate exposure, and maximize the health of animals, the environment, and humans. We use a One Health approach that combines animal, environmental, and human data to better characterize the dynamic impact of contaminants on an ecosystem.  We actively seek research collaborative partnerships with local communities, ensuring the research is done in a culturally appropriate manner and addresses concerns that come directly from the communities involved. The long-term goal is to advance the health of partner communities through One Health and community-engaged holistic frameworks that will benefit Tribal communities that border the Colorado River by providing novel mechanistic information on how aquatic contaminants adversely affect health, influence strategies aimed at preserving the Colorado River ecosystem, an important natural resource treasured by many communities. The river is a major waterway in the American Southwest to many native and endangered species and provides drinking water to millions of Americans and serves as a major irrigation source for agriculture in Arizona, California, and Colorado.
