About:
It is the mission of Theodore Roosevelt School to prepare and empower all students for the choices and challenges they will face in the future by providing a positive, healthy, social, and educational environment which is based on N’dee knowledge and language. Theodore Roosevelt School (TRS) is a Tribally Controlled Grant School located on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in eastern Arizona. Established in 1923 and operating for over a century, the school was originally founded as a federal boarding school and has since transformed into a Native-led institution governed by the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Today, TRS serves as both a symbol of resilience and a center of educational opportunity for Apache youth, embodying our mission of Chagáshé Báh — “For the Children.”
Our school serves grades 6–8 with a current enrollment of approximately 150 students, all of whom are Native American and members of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The demographics of our community underscore the critical need for equitable access to high-quality, culturally grounded education: 32% of our students are classified as homeless, 10% receive special education services, and 100% are Native language learners. Despite these challenges, our attendance rate is consistently above 96%, a testament to the strong commitment of families and students to education even in the face of adversity.
